Karin Carlson has been a friend and supporter of Bringing Hope to the Family for over a decade. Karin’s first visit to the Village of Kaihura as a humanitarian volunteer for BHTF was life-changing for both Karin and Bringing Hope to the Family. During her first visit, Karin volunteered as a dental assistant for a medical mission in the Village and soon learned that she connected with so many of the community members and the orphans who were under the care of BHTF and leadership of Executive Director and Founder, Faith Kunihira. The impact of Karin’s visit launched into action when she decided to move to Uganda and live at BHTF to begin forming the Crisis Pregnancy Center (CPC), now a division of BHTF. Karin understood the need to help and equip young pregnant and vulnerable girls to plan for their futures. During those two years, with the help and support of Karin’s friends and family, she rented a small house which was used as a vocational school teaching hairdressing, jewelry making, baskets, etc. Family planning, infant care, financial budgeting, and self-sustainability were also part of the CPC through Karin’s leadership. Karin watched her program flourish and found that showing love and compassion to her girls was her top priority. Today we can see the impact that Karin left on so many girls who are able to pass along the skills that they learned and to also become self-sustainable in their own lives.
